How it works
- Where does the data come from?
- The official registry RDAP service for the domain's extension (from the IANA list) is queried first; if there is no RDAP, the registry's official WHOIS server is used. Nothing is guessed; if the registry doesn't publish a field, the reason is shown. Results are cached for 30 minutes.
- How to use it
- Type a domain (e.g. example.com) and run the lookup; you don't need http://, www or a path. The result appears within seconds and the page URL can be shared.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is WHOIS?
WHOIS is the protocol and registration system used to look up a domain's registration data (registrar, registration and expiry dates, status codes, name servers).
What does a WHOIS lookup show?
It shows which registrar the domain is registered with, when it was registered, when it expires, its EPP status codes and the name servers it uses. For most extensions, registrant details are not shared for privacy reasons (GDPR).
What is RDAP?
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern successor to WHOIS, delivering data in structured JSON format. Whoisera first queries the official RDAP server for the extension and, if needed, the official WHOIS server.
What is the domain registration date?
It is the date the domain was first created at the registry. Domain age is calculated only when the registry shares this date.
